Abstract
Understanding Arabic texts is an important aspect of Arabic language learning. However, in the learning process, some students are able to read Arabic texts but are still unable to fully compherehend their meanings. These difficulties are related, among other things, to limited vocabulary, inadequate understanding of sentence structures, and difficulties in identifying the main ideas and information contained in texts. Therefore, an appropriate learning model is needed to improve students’ comprehension of Arabic texts. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of implementing the cooperative learning model of the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) type to improve Arabic text comprehension among seventh-grade students in Class VII/C at Madrasah Tsanawiyah At-Tibyan Deli Serdang. This study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-test post-test design, involving 30 students selected through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through tests and analyzed using parametric inferential statistics with a ‘t-test’. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ Arabic text comprehension after the implementation of the TAI learning model. This was indicated by an increase in the mean score from 45.46 on the pre-test to 75.53 on the post-test. The t-test yielded a significance value of 0.00, which is lower than 0.05; therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the TAI learning model is effective in improving students’ Arabic text comprehension.
