Editorial Process
Indonesian Journal of Contemporary Islamic Educational Studies (IJCIES) implements a systematic, objective, transparent, and quality-oriented editorial process. Every submitted manuscript undergoes several stages before it is considered eligible for publication.
Authors submit their manuscripts through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform in accordance with the journal's submission guidelines and manuscript template.
Authors are expected to ensure that their manuscripts:
-
are relevant to the journal's focus and scope;
-
represent original scholarly work;
-
have not been previously published;
-
are not under consideration by another journal;
-
comply with the applicable author guidelines.
Each submitted manuscript is initially evaluated by the Editorial Team to determine its suitability for further consideration.
The initial screening includes an assessment of:
-
relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope;
-
manuscript structure and formatting;
-
compliance with the Author Guidelines;
-
completeness of metadata and supporting documents;
-
quality of academic language and writing;
-
potential plagiarism or violations of publication ethics.
Manuscripts that do not meet the initial requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined before entering the peer-review process.
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be assigned to an editor with relevant expertise in the subject area.
The assigned editor is responsible for managing the editorial process, selecting appropriate reviewers, monitoring the review process, and providing recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief regarding editorial decisions.
Manuscripts that meet the journal's initial requirements will be evaluated by qualified peer reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject area.
The review process is conducted objectively and considers the manuscript's scientific quality, originality, methodology, relevance, clarity of argument, contribution to the development of Islamic education, and compliance with academic and publication ethics.
Reviewers may provide one of the following recommendations:
-
Accept – the manuscript is suitable for publication;
-
Minor Revision – the manuscript requires minor revisions;
-
Major Revision – the manuscript requires substantial revisions;
-
Reject – the manuscript does not meet the journal's publication standards.
Based on the reviewers' reports and the editor's assessment, the Editor-in-Chief or the authorized editor will make an editorial decision.
The possible decisions include:
-
Accepted – the manuscript is accepted for publication;
-
Revisions Required – the authors are requested to revise the manuscript;
-
Resubmit for Review – the manuscript requires substantial revision and may undergo another round of review;
-
Declined – the manuscript is rejected.
The editorial decision will be communicated to the authors through the OJS platform.
Authors receiving revision requests are expected to revise their manuscripts according to the comments and recommendations provided by the reviewers and editors.
Authors should provide clear responses to the reviewers' comments and resubmit the revised manuscript within the specified timeframe.
If the revised manuscript does not sufficiently address the required changes, the editor may request additional revisions or send the manuscript for further review.
Once the manuscript has successfully completed the review and revision process and meets the journal's scientific and editorial standards, it will be formally Accepted for Publication.
The manuscript will then proceed to the production and publication stages.
Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting to ensure clarity, consistency, grammar, citation accuracy, reference formatting, and compliance with the journal's publication standards.
The manuscript will subsequently undergo layout editing in accordance with the publication design and formatting standards of Indonesian Journal of Contemporary Islamic Educational Studies (IJCIES).
The final version of the article will be carefully checked to identify and correct any remaining errors in the text, tables, figures, references, and layout.
Authors may be given an opportunity to review the final proof before publication.
Articles that have successfully completed all editorial and production stages will be published in an issue of Indonesian Journal of Contemporary Islamic Educational Studies (IJCIES) according to the journal's publication schedule.
Once published, the article will be made available online in accordance with the journal's access and publication policies.
